About
Carlin Stiehl is a second-generation Romanian-Israeli and American photojournalist in Los Angeles, California, and a staff photographer at the Los Angeles Times.
He has worked intimately in communities of different value systems across the United States, from metropolitan centers to the outreaches of rural society, illustrating human-environmental relationships and humanizing socio-political issues viewed from afar.
Carlin received his B.S. in Film & Television with a concentration in Marine Sciences from Boston University where he specialized in narrative documentary storytelling. He then worked in multimedia production in Ethiopia before transitioning into film production in the documentary and commercial industry in Los Angeles.
After studying at Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication, he worked in newsrooms for The Chesapeake Bay Program, The Kalamazoo Gazette and The Boston Globe, producing short-term daily and long-form documentary work. He is currently producing his master’s thesis.
Carlin also brings his photojournalism expertise to the commercial photography space, using his skill in capturing authentic, unscripted moments to promote a brand’s authenticity—an essential value in modern marketing. By applying his narrative-driven approach, he creates imagery that resonates deeply with audiences, fostering trust and connection.
